Why KISAKI deleted his blog

A few days ago, KISAKI seemingly deleted all personal posts from his blog (release/live information posts were spared). For those of you who have been asking about it over twitter, this is the story:

As you know, KISAKI was in the hospital for a few days last week. After being released, he posted a picture of paper cranes he had received from fans during his hospital stay. However, a Japanese fan recognized this photo―recognized it from a simple Google image search for “paper cranes.”

When this came to light, other fans stepped forward and revealed that KISAKI had passed off pictures from Google as his own in several other entries as well. A list was compiled of all of entries containing faked images: in all, there were 10~20 entries.

The problem with this is twofold. First, KISAKI effectively committed copyright infringement, as he passed these pictures off as his own. Obviously none of us really care about that aspect. The second, and more insidious, problem is that it calls into question whether KISAKI was telling the truth about the contents of the entries to begin with.

For example, KISAKI posted a picture of food he had eaten while in the hospital, and that image turned out to be stolen. Does this mean that KISAKI was never in the hospital to begin with? Similarly, KISAKI posted a picture of his shattered car window after it was broken into during the night, but that image too turned out to be stolen. Was he lying about his car being broken in to?

The vast majority of the stolen images were benign―a picture of pancakes, a GLASS of alcohol at a bar, etc.―but, as you can see, a few cases are troubling. In an attempt to avoid the issue altogether, I suppose, KISAKI deleted all of his almost 5,000 personal blog entries.

Although I could never condone using stolen images so brazenly, I'm extremely saddened by the loss of years of information and memories.

I would know, how could those people found so many pictures on totally noname various sites under 1-2 days.

It seems like a lot of work, but, well, it's not impossible. For example, I searched “paper cranes” in Google images (in Japanese) and found the same image. So someone who was suspicious could have done that. Also, there is a search service called <a href="http://www.tineye.com/">TinEye</a> which searches for similar images. It is also possible that some people already discovered those fakes a long time ago and made a note of it, but didn't share their knowledge until this scandal emerged.

Sorry, you had to search thousand paper cranes. It's here: <a href="https://www.google.com/search?sugexp=chrome,mod%3D6&q=%E5%8D%83%E7%BE%BD%E9%B6%B4&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&authuser=0&ei=wHoFUK_CD8jI6gHnvLnICA&biw=1440&bih=732&sei=TRUSUN-0HIG36wHezoDACQ">千羽鶴</a>, on the second page (<a href="http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en&sa=N&authuser=0&biw=1440&bih=732&tbm=isch&tbnid=geipze0RKErsfM:&imgrefurl=http://muruku.co.jp/mirai/news.php%3FID%3D63&docid=VtQcQ7A-m9VgfM&imgurl=http://muruku.co.jp/mirai/archives/2009/03/news/20090418132439.jpg&w=640&h=480&ei=TRUSUL7fKMOH6QHMuYDYBA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=939&vpy=302&dur=284&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=57&ty=121&sig=116490725565409171006&page=2&tbnh=155&tbnw=221&start=41&ndsp=30&ved=1t:429,r:20,s:41,i:267">this image</a>). I agree, it's fast for someone to figure out, but it was probably just a coincidence. Someone just happened to notice, and then it seems other people already knew of other stolen images. Of course it's unfortunate, but it wasn't conspiracy or anything!

Trust feels broken some how. At first, I laughed about it all but now it has become an uneasy feeling. I understand the deletion, when I'm upset I want to get rid of it all. It is very sad indeed to lose all the blog information. A tangled web was woven with all of us left to wonder as to why ? It seems we have also lost our connection with him in the process as he no longer tweets like he did before. Many rumors floating around none of this can be good for the business. Hopefully, it will all die down soon.

Yeah, I really hope it does pass soon. It's a really stupid situation that could have been avoided in the first place...
